Queen Elizabeth is a sovereign who serves, inspired by a God who serves. God is love and out of that love God became a single cell in Mary’s womb.

Mountain tops are of course good vantage points – and just as the higher up we are the better the visual view: Ascension Day gives us a great spiritual and liturgical viewpoint.

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark… things happen early in the morning. Mornings are mystical and sacred.

On Ash Wednesday, millions of Christians around the world engage in the ancient ritual known as “the imposition of ashes.” The practice of using ashes as a sign of penitence goes back to the Hebrew people.

The Gospel we have just heard is about two kingdoms. There is the kingdom of Cesar Augustus, the Roman Emperor who calls a census of the entire world. Alongside this vast kingdom which seeks consolidation another king appears: the infant who is to be found in a manger.
