Byrdsong is a small chamber choir based in the Usk area. It was formed in 2016 by a local group of singers, some of whom had previously sung with The Flying Shepherds.  The name Byrdsong is inspired by one of their favourite composers, William Byrd (1543 – 1623). They usually have ten or eleven singers.

They have a repertoire of music spanning five centuries which includes madrigals, part songs, folk songs and motets.  Their programmes are suitable for all venues from village halls to grand cathedrals.

The choir normally performs “a cappella” and most of their concerts include short instrumental pieces and readings. These, along with descriptions of the choral works, create a varied, audience friendly performance.

Engagements for 2017 include concerts in Chepstow, Usk and Newport and a concert and a church service in North Pembrokeshire. They sang for a funeral in St Woolos and will help celebrate Choral Evensong in St Woolos and Usk.  In December they will take part in the Usk Christmas Fair and local Carol Services.
