A Pilgrimage and Retreat has been organised for next year to Shallowford House Christian Retreat and Conference Centre, Nr Lichfield on Tuesday 29th March to Friday lst April 2016.
We have run these Pilgrimages for a number of years now going to different venues every year. Revd. Dr Alison Green leads the Retreat and there is a lot of time for prayer and meditation as well as pilgrimages. This time we are visiting Lichfield Cathedral with a guided tour and Evensong, and the National Memorial Arboretum
Shallowford House is a Christian retreat and conference centre in Staffordshire, run as an independent charity within the Diocese of Lichfield. It is a stunning 19th century building, and in 1938 was given by the Webster family to the Diocese of Lichfield to be used as a training and retreat centre for the clergy and parishioners of the Diocese. Since then, it has maintained a strong link with the diocese and its parishes, and well as welcoming individuals and groups form further afield. Shallowford House hosts day and residential conferences, training events, retreats and other meetings and social gatherings. There are several meeting rooms that we can use while we are there. The heart of the house is its peaceful chapel. The uncluttered design lends to the space sense of beauty and tranquility. A small prayer room off the Chapel is also always available for private prayer.
The kitchen makes use of local produce wherever possible, including some from Shallowford’s own garden. Staff serve Fairtrade tea and coffee and other produce where possible. Breakfast is continental, lunches are two-course, with a three-course evening meal. There is a fully licensed bar in the TV Room. There are 25 bedrooms, consisting of double, twin and single rooms and are en-suite, with two of the ground floor rooms having wheelchair access.
The five acres of beautifully maintained gardens, woodland and meadow – affiliated to the Quiet Gardens Movement – are the ideal place to relax and unwind. There are different areas of the garden that add interest – a croquet lawn, formal lawns, a Friends garden, vegetable and fruit gardens and a wildlife area. In the meadow is a wild flower prayer labyrinth and a pond.
